hello, i have a kubota 2150 with a hydrostatic trany.and it sounds to me that your fluid level may be a little low or as you have said you were just in the wrong range. i don't know why your engine would be running hot. it may be the fluid / antifreze may be low as well. i had similar trouble with my trany and it just turned out the fluid was low.
